A Quote for the Week

Here is another quote sent in by a blog follower. It is a slightly lengthy one but I very much like it, as it deals with a topic central to our well-being:

“To be mature you have to realize what you value most. It is extraordinary to discover that comparatively few people reach this level of maturity. They seem never to have paused to consider what has value for them. They spend great effort and sometimes make great sacrifices for values that, fundamentally, meet no real needs of their own. Perhaps they have imbibed the values of their particular profession or job, of their community or their neighbors, of their parents or family. Not to arrive at a clear understanding of one’s own values is a tragic waste. You have missed the whole point of what life is for.”

Eleanor Roosevelt (former First Lady of the United States of America)

Our values are very important, because we derive a sense of meaning or purpose from them. If we are clear about what really matters to us when it comes down to it, we are also likely to feel a sense of meaning in our life. More about this essential topic in a couple of weeks or so.

But first, we will look into self-acceptance and self-compassion in this week's main post, which will be published as usual on Friday.

Have a good week until then,
Petra
